Controlled Light Sculptures for Visual Effects in Music Performance Applications
(Pre-grant Publication US 11/004,746)

Patent Pending; Priority Date: June 16, 2004

Controlled light sculptures suggestive of instrument elements and rotating speakers associated with contemporary music performances. In one embodiment, rotating speaker systems often employed in organ amplification are visually emulated. A controlled rotating light emitting system comprises a controllable light source responsive to a light control signal and a controllable light motion element for creating visual motion of the light distribution. The controllable light motion element is responsive to at least one motion control signal. Either or both of the light control signal and motion control signal may be controlled responsive to musical signals, user controls, floor controls, MIDI signals, etc. In another embodiment, an array of light columns or pyramids visually emulate organ pipes, instrument strings, etc, via controllable light sources responsive to light control signals. Light control signals may be controlled responsive to musical signals, instrument actuators, floor controllers, MIDI signals, etc. Any of the control signals may be in MIDI format.
